Britain’s The Guardian has revealed what Cape Town’s water babies have always known: the pool on the Sea Point Pavilion is one of the best in the world.

The pool has been featured among the world’s top 10 on a list compiled by readers of The Guardian. “This is a local institution,” the newspaper wrote of the pool, which lies on Cape Town’s Atlantic seaboard.

“You swim your lengths while watching the supertankers moored alongside twirl on their anchors. Sometimes surf from the Atlantic’s Benguela current washes over the deck.”

Sea Point’s pool shares the splashy stage with, among others:

»?Berlin’s Badeschiff floating pool, which was crafted from the hull of a vessel and floats on the river Spree. In winter, it becomes a covered spa and in summer a beach is created on the river bank, complete with a bar;

»?Iceland’s Seljavallalaug geothermal pool is the oldest in the country (it was built in 1923). The 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallajökull left it partially filled with volcanic ash, but those who love it say it’s still a spectacular spot; and

»?A pool in the middle of Oman’s Wahiba desert, where the shifting sands make a beautiful counterpoint to the water.
