Senior Eastern Cape ANC leader starts new party

2013-08-24 12:41

A senior Eastern Cape ANC leader has formed a new political party.

Former MEC Mkhangeli Matomela – one of the ANC’s longest serving members of the provincial legislature – gave an inaugural speech at the launch of The Kingdom Governance Movement on Thursday in Bhisho, the Dispatch Online reported today.

Matomela said his new party would soon be registered with the Independent Electoral Commission and would contest the 2014 national elections.

“I feel limited in the ANC and have taken a decision not to campaign for them for the upcoming elections but for the prophetic kingdom politics,” Matomela was quoted as saying.

Matomela is chairman of the finance committee and serves on various portfolio committees, including housing and the standing committee on public accounts. According to the report, he had been working on the formation of the new party for about a year.

During his address on Thursday, Matomela called the African National Congress, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and the South African and World Council of Churches part of a global “anti-Christ” movement, according to the report.
