Slikour won’t remove ‘Blacks are Fools’ song

2012-05-19 09:54

Hip hop artist Slikour has said he will not remove his song “Blacks are Fools” from the internet despite coming under fire from many South Africans, according to a report.

Slikour, whose real name is Siya Metane, released the controversial song for free download in March. Since then he has received several death threats on Twitter and a number of politicians have criticised him.

In the song, he sang: “Coz blacks are fools. They just wanna be fresh, and they wanna be cool, give them a little money and they think they rule. But I hope we better than that.”

He also had a go at politicians: “They wanna be celebs and famous...it’s all about money and political favours”.
According to The Star newspaper the song has been downloaded 15 631 times.

Metane said he had no regrets, and that it was never meant to offend South Africans.

“I believe I’m talking for the generation of today and tomorrow. I’m also not perfect... at the end of the day we are all accountable for where this country is going,” he told the newspaper.

“I think there’s a minority that’s tied up on the title and not the content.”

DA leader Helen Zille said: “The title is very provocative and I don’t agree with the gross generalisation it makes with reference to black people. It’s wrong to generalise about any group. There are wise people and fools in every group.”

United Democratic Front leader Bantu Holomisa said: “He should withdraw the song and apologise to avoid having people go to the Human Rights Commission to complain.”
