Mzansi’s powerful women were honoured last night at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards. Lesley Mofokeng rubbed shoulders with some of them

It was a battle of the belles as young starlets walked the red carpet at the fourth annual Women of the Year Awards hosted by Glamour magazine in Hyde Park, Joburg.

In their finest glittering flowing gowns, slinky body-hugging dresses and jumpsuits, the fashion stakes were high.

The evening belonged to Minnie Dlamini who was declared the Reader’s Choice Woman of the Year as voted for by the public.

She delivered a sweet and passionate speech dedicated to her parents, siblings, manager and the love of her life, soccer star Itumeleng Khune, who sat next to her throughout the evening.

Bonang Matheba compered and her new Revlon TV commercial played repeatedly on the screens around the Southern Sun Hotel room.

Among those honoured were soprano Pretty Yende who has taken the world of opera by storm, Toya DeLazy, the BET-nominated singer, comedian Anne Hirsch, radio and TV personality Liezel van der Westhuizen, actress Nicola Jackman who you may remember as Elise Buller on Isidingo and fashionista Felicity Spies.
