Sponsorship boosts women’s football

2013-06-25 18:56

Sasol has announced the extension of its backing of women’s football on national team and club level for another four years.

The announcement was made last night during an event in Hyde Park, Joburg.

However, the value of the sponsorship remains known only to South African Football Association (Safa) and Sasol.

According to Safa president Kirsten Nematandani, the “financial aspect of the sponsorship is engraved in the contract, the details of which will be announced soon”.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Sports and Recreation Fikile Mbalula described investment in women’s football as “breaking the cycle of poverty”.

He added that we “started from the bottom, now we’re here, we salute and celebrate women empowerment”.
