Stan Mathabatha ANCYL PTT's preferred candidate in Limpopo

2013-11-28 19:16

The ANC Youth League provincial task team (PTT) has thrown its weight behind Stan Mathabatha as its preferred candidate to lead the ruling party in Limpopo, ahead of the provincial conference next month.

This is a boost to Mathabatha’s quest to lead the province after the elections, ahead of his contender, Dickson Masemola.

Things are not looking too bright for Masemola. Those aligned to him have lost the leadership race in three regions of the ANC in the province, with a fourth region said to have switched support to Mathabatha as well.

Masemola was education MEC when Limpopo found itself in the news with the textbook saga. Mathabatha moved him to another department and spared him the axe when he took over as premier and fired other MECs.

The youth league PTT – the first ANC structure in the province to declare its support for one candidate over the other – believes Mathabatha came to the rescue of the Limpopo government when it was on the verge of collapse.

The league PTT said Mathabatha’s appointment as Limpopo premier five months ago has “gone a long way in creating stability in the administration in the province”.

“His sterling work in dealing with corruption and providing direction in leadership of the provincial administration has seen significant improvement in how the province has moved from a corrupt province to a province dedicated to increased stakeholder involvement and commitment in providing better services to the people of Limpopo, reaffirming our commitment that working together we can do more.”

The league PTT further committed to mobilising for Mathabatha ahead of the provincial conference, set to kick off on December 20.

The youth league PTT said today it would “continue to engage the leadership of the ANC in regions and branches to consolidate the entire collective and to advocate for the consideration of generational transition for youth leaders, and women affirmation that will lead the ANC, affirming our long-standing position”.

“Anchored by unquestionable academic and political credentials and a worth of experience gathered in several deployments at different capacities, there is no doubt that the current premier together with collective ANC leaders deployed in government has what it takes to take the ANC and ANC-led government to new heights, where the lives of citizens of Limpopo shall improve ...”
