Stepfather on the run after murder of 2 girls

2014-01-02 15:06

Two children were shot dead in Ga-Chuene, near Lebowakgomo, allegedly by their stepfather.

The 39-year-old man is on the run after allegedly killing the 8- and 10-year-old girls yesterday, Limpopo police brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said today.

The man fetched his three children from their grandmother’s house and took them to his wife’s workplace.

“Seemingly, he could not talk to her as she was busy and apparently [he] went back outside. Without uttering any words, he fired two shots killing one [of the girls] while the other one fled,” said Mulaudzi.

He then returned to the grandmother’s home with his youngest child, a two-year-old boy. Along the way, he handed the boy to a friend.

He found the older girl at the grandmother’s house and allegedly shot her twice at close range before running away.

Mulaudzi said the motive for the killing was unclear. The boy has since been reunited with his mother. Both of them are under police protection, said Mulaudzi.
