The serial killer who murdered 13 women and dumped their bodies in sugarcane fields will be sentenced in January, the Durban High Court ruled today.

“You will be sentenced on January 19. You will remain in custody in Westville Prison,” said Judge King Ndlovu.

On Thursday last week Thozamile Taki was found guilty on all 26 charges relating to the murders of the 13 women whose bodies were found in sugarcane plantations in Umzinto and Port St Johns in 2007.

Taki’s co-accused and former girlfriend, Hlengiwe Nene, was found not guilty.

Today the State and the defence were presenting argument about the sentence Taki should receive.
