Pop darling Katy Perry soared like a comet above a Super Bowl crowd of more than 70 000 at Super Bowl XLIX.

The singer opened with her rousing standard Roar, riding into University of Phoenix Stadium last night in Glendale, Arizona, atop a giant, metallic lion.

Packed with all the extravagant production value expected from both Perry’s concerts and Super Bowl halftime shows, the number launched a musical medley in which rocker Lenny Kravitz and rapper Missy Elliott delivered guest performances.

On Twitter, @AlexisGZall declared: “I think Katy Perry won the Super Bowl.”

The 13-minute show climaxed with Perry riding high in the air across the field, suspended from spark-spewing shooting star while singing Firework.

“Thank you. God bless America!” she called to the crowd in her last moment in the spotlight.

The applause on Twitter seemed to match the cheers in the stadium.

“It’s kind of rude,” @AidanJAlexander tweeted, “that they’re playing football at a Katy Perry concert.”
