2010-06-25 13:15

Farrah Francis celebrates Africa Fashion Week by picking the top five shows about fashion.

1
Gossip girl

Vuzu
Awaiting Season 4

Serena van de Woodsen, Blair Waldorf and Jenny Humphrey have a fourth friend on the series, and her name is high-end fashion. The Gossip Girls don the finest designer labels, including Marc Jacobs and Armani. The outfits are over the top but oh so glamorous and chic. And the boys don’t look too bad either.

2
Ugly Betty

M-Net
Tuesdays, 8pm

Betty Suarez may not be Mode magazine’s in-house fashionista, but designer clothes do run the inner workings of the magazine. From Wilhemina Slater’s eye-catching gear to receptionist Amanda’s hot ensembles and Marc’s garish suits, fashion is definitely a running thread throughout the show and viewers are lapping it up.

3
Project Runway

M-Net Series
Awaiting new season

Take some wannabe fashion designers, stitch in a former model with German charm (Heidi Klum) and sew in fashion consultant Tim Gunn. What happens next is a roller coaster ride in fashion. The reality show is in its seventh season in the US and has several international versions. It’s set in the fashion capital of the world, New York, which only adds to its edge.

4
Models of the Runway
M-Net Series
8.30pm

Heidi Klum’s Project Runway was so successful that it sparked a spin-off series. If you ever wondered what happened to those catwalk princesses, this series has all the answers. Viewers are taken “behind the seams” to hear the models’ opinions on the designers and their feelings about the clothes they have to flaunt on the runway.

5
How Do I Look?
The Style Network
Sundays, 8pm

A sense of style and fashion goes a long way in this series about makeovers. Candidates with devastating fashion choices and bad hair are taken on a before-meets-after excursion with bubbly host Jeannie Mai. To make matters more interesting, Mai ensures that the friends and family of the candidates come along for the journey.
