TV guide: X-Factor host Steve Jones is the pied-piper of yawns

2011-11-18 14:50

X-Factor host Steve Jobs is the pied-piper of yawns. He could learn something from these pros

1.Ryan Seacrest

American Idol

He’s the man with the multiple jobs and really, what’s one more? Seacrest is the go-to guy when it comes to hosting music shows. He’s comfortable on live television and constantly exchanges sharp and witty barbs with Simon Cowell on American Idol. Unlike Steve Jones, Seacrest will never have an awkward moment and won’t sound like a class prefect when he rushes judges for responses.

2.Jeff Probst

Survivor

Hosts have come and gone but there’s no getting rid of Probst, who has turned surviving into an art. Probst has survived the change in islands and various contestants with panache. He looks like he can live in a jungle on his own and nobody looks better wearing khaki than he does. Put him on the X-Factor stage and he’s sure to survive that too – in a khaki suit, of course.

3.Cat Deeley

So You Think You Can Dance

You can tell that Deeley doesn’t have a single rhythmic bone in her body but hey, at least she covers it up with her engaging

personality and interesting outfits. The hostess with the mostess of So You Think You Can Dance is another one who does well on live television. She’s also very English, which means she’s able to get some of Nigel Lythgoe’s too-dry sense of humour.

4.Nick Cannon

America’s Got Talent

Cannon is the host of another of Simon Cowell’s reality shows. This is his second season and he’s really getting into it – Cannon happens to be the host who’s just as entertaining as the contestants themselves, often joining in their on-stage antics. However, X-Factor is a different game and Cannon might need to enlist the help of his wife Mariah Carey. Nice!

5.Phil Keoghan

The Amazing Race

The spiky hair, the piercing eyes and calm nature have contributed to him winning eight Emmys. Keoghan is a man who knows reality show hosting and has done it in several countries. He also had some near-death experiences before he turned 19. So the X-Factor should be a piece of cake. If all fails, he can hand out some NOW Energy Bars.
