The hugely popular Our Perfect Wedding returned to TV screens for a fourth season, and, as expected, caused a stir, writes Siyabonga Sithole.

Our Perfect Wedding season four returned amid Twitter and facebook buzz, sparking an invasion of #Melusi and #OPW hashtags last night.

Melusi Trinity Mbhele and Puseletso Theka had been together since 1998, and tied the knot on the popular Mzansi Magic wedding reality TV show.

They became instant hits with the viewers. It would seem Melusi’s expensive gift will serve as a new love barometer and possibly set the tone for what this season of OPW is all about. It seems anything shy of extravagance will certainly get social media reacting in a major way.

These are some of the tweets directed at the groom when the BMW 6 series he bought his wife was revealed:

LoveNony ?@mvelo77 wrote: “People will always be negative and will find something to criticize [sic] this wedding was beautiful. Staff jealousy man” #opw.

Mercedes P. Magwai ?@Phuttym19, Tweeted: “Twitter critics say Melusi is over compensatn 4 his small dick & lack of bedroom skills,& some say hes got gay tendencies”,#OPW

Gossip blog Zalebs has crowned Melusi Mbhele, the groom who “made it rain”.

“Melusi Mbhele has officially taken the crown as Our Perfect Wedding’s husband of the season, with a brand new BMW 6 series for his wife. The pressure is officially on for the following couples,” claimed the blog.

Another reaction from a Twitter user, Lerato Tshabalala ?(@LeratoTJ) said: “Melusi is whipped to the max! This girl gotta tell us what she puts in his food. Some of us can do with the recipe!”

Jay ?@ZeehKunene wrote, “I need a Melusi in ma life, noooor”.

It seems that with this season, the ridiculous and outrageous weddings are the thing of the past and glam and extravagance are, once again, the in thing.

Catch the next episode this Sunday at 7pm on Mzansi Magic.
