New channel for M-Net

M-Net has announced the launch of a new local channel, Mzanzi

Magic, which will hit screens on July 12.

The channel, which will be available to DStv Select, DStv Compact

and DStv Premium subscribers, is meant to showcase local content.

Said channel director Yolisa Phahle: “The channel is set to

showcase locally produced content with a strong focus on entertainment.”

Content will include local and international feature films, music

specials, documentaries and soapies.

The channel will commission its own, unique local drama but will

also be showcasing favourites such as Jacob’s Cross and Moruti Wa Tsotsi.

Isidingo: Look who’s

back

Spoiler alert! (Don’t read if you don’t want to

know)

The TV screen’s biggest villainess will be returning to SABC3’s

Isidingo in July as Michelle Botes resumes her role as Cheryl De Villiers.

The character will return just in time for Barker Haines’s upcoming

wedding while Len Cooper will also embark on a fiery love affair with Kim – the

mother of Barker’s child.

In addition, Vusi and Lesedi will stroll down the isle, while a new

love affair is on the horizon for the Frank-Priya-Rajesh triangle.

Meanwhile, Isidingo’s latest addition, Ace, will be faced with a

rather compromising situation when a sex tape surfaces.

Carol Bouwer and Bassie Khumalo join forces

Carol Bouwer and Bassie Khumalo have joined forces with Michelle

Garforth and Jen Sue for a new talk show, No Reservations.

The show, which will be shot in high definition (HD), will focus on

trends and topics – from politics to shoes.

According to Garforth, the show’s inspiration is the American talk

show The View, which features Whoopi Goldberg and Babara Walters among

others.

No Reservations will be shot in front of a live studio audience at

a yet-to-be-named venue.

Another presenter will be added to the line-up.

BBC jumps on World Cup bandwagon

While the SABC may be the official broadcaster of the World Cup,

the BBC has also stepped in to claim a piece of the pie by introducing a host of

pre-tournament highlights. These include:

- Africa Kicks, a journey through the region of West Africa that

has produced a wealth of international soccer talent

- The Power and the Passion, a new four-part series on BBC World

Service English, in which writer and broadcaster David Goldblatt examines the

relationship between soccer and fans, as he travels to four fiercely contested

local derby games in Ghana, Italy, Egypt and the UK

- George Weah and Didier Drogba’s exploits off the pitch are the

focus of Life on the Edge
