A tablet loaded with South Africa’s maths and science curriculum for grades 10, 11 and 12 is the latest in a string of education-focused technological innovations to hit the market.

The dual-sim tablet, which was launched by Future Mobile Technology this week, contains 183 hours of maths and science educational content.

Public and private schools are increasingly using tablets to deliver and administer lessons.

From January, pupils in all Gauteng’s public schools will have access to tablets.

Future Mobile Technology’s Tracy Andersson said: “The device demonstrates and presents experiments in a laboratory, and previous exam papers. It also offers full video and PDFs on how to use your calculator, which is now mandatory for students. Each subject offers grades 10, 11 and 12 – then further categorised by video – PDF, workbooks and solutions.”

Students can pause, rewind and watch video lessons as many times as they wish.

In addition, the content can be bookmarked or highlighted, or footnotes can be added to PDFs.

The gadgets are available at selected retailers associated with the Foschini Group. They cost R2 999.
