Taxi man nabbed for alleged R20 bribe

2010-09-13 08:42

A Johannesburg taxi driver was arrested for allegedly trying to bribe a metro policeman with R20 today, metro police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said.

The 22-year-old had allegedly been driving on the wrong side of Main Road, Martindale. His passengers had to disembark and catch another taxi.

He was expected to appear in the Sophiatown Magistrates Court later today to face charges of bribery and corruption.

“The message goes out that there are also good metro police officers who don’t take bribes,” said Minnaar.

He said that as a word of caution, motorists who attempt to bribe officers who are not corrupt will be arrested and charged for corruption.
