Teachers having sex with pupils – report

2012-02-14 08:59

Three Esiqiwini High School teachers, in Mtubatuba, KwaZulu-Natal, have allegedly been involved in sexual relationships with pupils.

The Sowetan reported today that parents and pupils were threatening to take “action” if the teachers were not expelled.

Mtubatuba residents had been trying to get the provincial education department to investigate the allegations since 2009.

Last year, a teacher paid “damages” to a matric girl’s parents after he admitted having fathered her child, the newspaper reported.

This was after a local crime prevention organisation investigated the allegations and found them to be true.

The school’s governing body chairperson Eliazah Ntshangase confirmed that a pupil was currently raising a child fathered by a teacher.

KwaZulu-Natal education department spokesperson Sihle Mlotshwa said the department was aware of the allegation.

“The district has asked the said teacher to make a statement and a decision will be taken as informed by the facts presented to the district,” he told the paper.
