Team Porsche roars home at Zwartkop race

2010-03-24 11:58

THE Altech GT challenge action moved to Zwartkops where the field of competitors were ready to secure an early points advantage in their respective classes.

Toby Venter in his Class A Porsche GT2 R took the first grid position followed by Charl Joubert in his Class A Lotus Exige.

Shortly after the green lights, Joubert took the lead from Venter, who fought back, and by the third lap the pressure was too much, forcing the Lotus to retire with technical difficulties.

Venter held the lead in the second heat, leaving Joubert several seconds behind.

The Class B ‘Team Fine Metals’ Porsche 997 GT3 driven by Mike Wilson, and prepared by Porsche Centre Racing, held on to a respectable 4th overall position for the day. Simon Murray in the Porsche 996 GT3 Cup car had filled the rear view mirror of a Ferrari 360 for both heats, ending the day with a small time difference separating Murray from the lead.

Andrew Culbert in his MFC sponsored 996 Porsche GT3 and Oliver Dalais in his Marlboro Crane Hire Porsche 996 GT3 took 4th and 5th places respectively in Class C.

All the Team Porsche Centre cars had a fine showing at the Zwartkops event, and the team looks forward to taking the battle for top honours to Cape Town for the next round in the Altech GT Challenge.
