Teen arrested for rape

2010-07-24 08:40

A 16-year-old boy was arrested for raping a mute woman in Dutywa, Eastern Cape.

Police Captain Jackson Manatha said the 23-year-old woman and her sister went to collect water around 11am yesterday.

The pair failed to return home and their mother went looking for them. When she found them, the sister informed her that the 23-year-old was raped.

The mother attempted to confront the suspect, who then chased the older woman with a panga. The mother reported the matter to the police who arrested the young man.

He was later released to the custody of his parents. He is due to appear in court on July 26 on a rape charge.
