The “Meet Your Match” party hosted by Johnnie Walker last night was all sorts of amazing.

Held at the room with a view called Shine Studios in Braamfontein, we were treated to the view of Joburg’s twinkling stars. But the real action was inside.

Guests were asked to sample 14 flavours to decide what kind of “Walker” they were.

We took a journey through a range of tastes, from slimy, chalk and cheese, sweet, bitter – and even something that tasted like cardboard.

Lesley Mofokeng finds his flavour at the Meet Your Match party, hosted by Johnnie Walker.

The real thrill was how these flavours were presented.

One room looked like a shisa nyama joint, except there were truffles on the coals.

In another room we met “clay people” who squirted what tasted like caramel into our tasters. Full marks for presentation to the team behind this idea.

At the end of the flavour tour, and with our ratings in of the flavours we had enjoyed most (and least), I was revealed to have favoured Johnnie Walker Red.

Shudder! Isn’t that the cheapest in the Walker range? I’d hoped for Platinum or at least Gold. Am I not discerning, or a downright amateur?

But does it really matter what kind of Walker you are? My snobbish drinking buddies distanced themselves from me the whole night - they’d scored Platinum.

DJ Black Coffee’s entertaining set helped, anyway, to restore my sense of pride.
