The amazing Muzhingi

2012-04-07 11:40

Zimbabwean-born runner Stephen Muzhingi entered into marathon folklore with his victory in the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon today.

He became the first man since the turn of the century to clinch back to back ultra marathon titles having won the Comrades Marathon last year.

He breasted the tape in 3:08.08 as he emulated the feat achieved by Derek Preiss 37 years ago when the South African bagged the Comrades and Two Oceans double.

South Africa however did not come back empty-handed at the traditional Easter marathon with a clean sweep across the men’s and women’s 21km race.

Xolisa Tyali won the men’s (1:04.54) while Olympic Games-bound Rene Kalmer came home in 1:15.02.
