The very idea of race is a fraud

2011-03-26 09:00

Members of the scientific community have long known – especially from the science of genetics – that the secret behind “white skin” is nothing more than the product of a small change to the genetic code within the DNA strand that is responsible for skin colour.

This has taken the debate about the meaning of race out of the dark days of myths and legends into the bright and clear daylight of modern scientific understanding.

Scientists also know that all people are more than 99.9% genetically identical.

In the light of this it should be clear that race has no scientific validity, especially when applied to human beings, yet within the non-scientific community race is as real as heaven and life after death.

In fact, it is proof that those who are not scientists will continue to hold onto this fraudulent idea.

And so continue to nurse their working misunderstandings to the point of fighting to the death if need be, because there are economic and political benefits associated with retaining such a false idea even in a post-apartheid South Africa.

The very idea of race is a fraud, and if this is the case, then why is it that black people have to apologise for a fraud they did not commit?

Is it out of ignorance of the facts that Kuli Roberts was fired and a black editor had to play the role of a Judas ?
