Chicken and egg

You know the process to exonerate Number 1 of any wrongdoing regarding Nkandla is under way when Parliament’s lawyers echo Cabinet’s words on the finding of the Public Protector.

This week Parliament’s legal adviser Mthuthuzeli Vanara said a finding that Zuma unduly benefited from all the extras built for him could not be justified as the PP was no expert on security matters.

But as Casacs’ Lawson Naidoo summarised it: “You don’t need to be a security expert to know that a chicken coop is no security feature.”

French connection

There have been questions in the Western Cape and the other eight provinces abroad about why Premier Helen Zille has been so quiet.

She hasn’t been heard on radio or seen on television for quite a few days and a search of her Twitter timeline reveals very little original content in the past few days.

However, on Phuza Thursday there was a retweet of @winestats about growers owning just under a third of vineyards in Beaujolais, France. Could this explain her absence?

C’mon Helen, tell us where you are.

One in a hundred

The PAC of Azania again made a surprise appearance in the new South Africa it rejects so much this week.

Latching on to a noble cause, the PAC announced it would protest outside the correctional services offices demanding the release of freedom fighters. So far so good.

But to grab the reactionary media’s attention, the PAC threatened to unleash “no less than a hundred PAC supporters” outside the correctional services offices to make their point.

Only 100 guys? It’s no wonder that the reactionary media ignored the entire event.
