Themba is no friend of mine: Jubjub

2010-03-19 06:00

Jubjub Maarohanye told the court that he is not friends with his co-accused Themba Tshabalala.

Maarohanye and his co-accused testified in the Protea Glen Magistrate court during their bail hearing.

A tearful Maarohanye told the court that his co-accused “does not know him like that,” saying that they were not drag racing when they got involved in a car accident that killed four school children. He also said he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time.

The hip hop star asked the court to grant him bail as he and his fiancé are expecting a baby soon.

Asked whether he feared for his life as a result of the agree protest directed at him by the public, Maarohanye replied “God will protect me.” He added that he needed time away from the whole thing with his family.

Crying and asking to be granted a moment to compose himself, Maarohanye said “right now he would do anything to get his life back on track.”

Meanwhile accused number two Themba Tshabalala had his lawyer, Mlungi Seleni read his 27 page written affidavit to the court.

He told magistrate Andre Auret that he intends to visit the families of the victims.

Tshabalala asked the court to grant him bail because he was needed by his gravely ill mother and family. He said they would be rendered destitute as he was the only one with an income at home. He is also expecting a baby by his 8 months pregnant fiancé and has a five year old son.

The witnesses called to give testimony included Capt Moses Khapo, Branch Commander of the Protea Glen police station.

The bail hearing has been postponed till tomorrow morning. The two accused are expected to plead not guilty.
