President Jacob Zuma has labelled people who boo at him “empty vessels who make the most noise”.

“They boo. They have a lot to say. Don’t pay attention. Rather do your work,” he was quoted as saying in Embalenhle, Mpumalanga, by The New Age.

“What they say does not help South Africa.”

Zuma was repeatedly booed at several events recently, including the memorial service of former president Nelson Mandela in December, at a soccer game at FNB stadium in March and during a rally in Malamulele, Limpopo, last week.

Zuma also reportedly criticised “clever people” who called for votes against the ANC.

“Voting for any other party besides the ANC is a waste of the vote,” he said.

“People talk a lot. They say this and that. They say we are doing nothing, but they are staying in an RDP house.”
