Thousands gather for Pinetown accident funeral

2013-09-14 12:12

A huge crowd gathered at a sports ground in Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal, for the funeral of four people killed in a crash on Fields Hill in Pinetown.

A marquee on the grounds, about 50km from Durban, was packed with an estimated 2000 people, and it was still growing.

As mourners arrived, scores of protesters gathered at the scene of the accident.

On September 5 22 people were killed and many injured when an articulated truck rammed into four minibus taxis and two cars at the intersection of the M13 and Richmond Road.

While the funeral and protest got underway, bikers held up traffic in protest at trucks using Fields Hill.
