A request for an official provincial funeral for former Springbok and Western Province rugby player Tinus Linee has been received, the presidency said.

“The request is receiving attention,” spokesperson Mac Maharaj said today.

This was after the presidency denied yesterday that it had received a request from the Western Cape provincial government for an official funeral for Linee.

Today, Maharaj clarified that the request had been sent through the email address of the presidential hotline, rather than the presidency’s normal office email.

“Given the volume of enquiries it may take longer at times for hotline staff to identify letters that have been sent to them erroneously.”

The office of the Western Cape premier had helped to locate the email, Maharaj said.
