Transport minister visits busy roads

2013-03-30 15:06

Transport Minister Ben Martins and his deputy Sindisiwe Chikunga are visiting busy roads countrywide this Easter weekend.

“They are visiting various provinces across the country interacting with road users during this Easter holiday season in order to encourage greater safety on the roads,” spokesman Tiyani Rikhotso said today.

“Law enforcement officers have also stepped up road safety operations throughout the country this Easter period in order to reduce the carnage.” Martins and Chikunga had already been to Gauteng, the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal. They would visit the North West, Eastern Cape and Limpopo next.

They would be joined by the respective province’s transport MECs, the police, the health department and South African National Taxi Council and private sector organisations.
