Truck hijacking: 3 cops arrested

2010-12-10 07:23

Three police officers have been arrested in Magaliesburg, Gauteng, in connection with a truck hijacking which took place last month.

“It is alleged that the three officers were on duty when the truck loaded with electrical appliances destined for Botswana was hijacked in Magaliesburg,” said Lieutenant Colonel Tshisikhawe Ndou.

The police officers recovered the truck with all the appliances in it valued at R2.5 million but before they handed in the truck they allegedly took the cargo to a house in Koesterfontein belonging to a 26-year-old for storage, he said.

“The trio would visit the accomplice to collect and sell the stolen goods in small amounts.”

Ndou said it was through a tip-off by community members that police were led to the house where some of the stolen goods were recovered, and he was arrested.

During his court appearance last month he entered into a plea bargain and turned state witness.

“That was when he mentioned that the three officers were the ones who brought the stolen goods to his place,” Ndou said.

The police officers were expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates Court on Monday.
