TV host Tshepo ‘Howza’ Mosese is searching for South Africa’s ultimate man.

There are very few things in the entertainment industry that 30-year-old Tshepo ‘Howza’ Mosese hasn’t tackled.

From his music career, which includes being a member urban pop group Peanut Gallery, to his acting and hosting gigs on shows such as e.tv’s Backstage and SABC1’s All You Need Is Love and Big Up, Howza has proved how versatile he is.

His latest incarnation is as host of Bar-One Manhunt, a reality TV show that takes 16 contestants through gruelling challenges.

‘I learnt a lot about watching these guys persevere even when it seemed like all hope was lost,’ Howza says. ‘It made me want to push further in my own life. I think that’s something everyone will be able to take away from this show.’

When asked if he considers himself a real man, Howza laughs and says, ‘Yes, I do think I’m a bona fide man. What you see is what you get. I’ve also managed to stay true my values in an industry that can be very fake. A lot of people pretend to be something they’re not just to fit in and get ahead. I’ve never subscribed to that thinking. I also look after my health – because I am diabetic, I am conscious of what I put into my body. I know the odd chocolate won’t do me any harm, but I stopped drinking when I was diagnosed in 2003. On set, I carry on the same way I usually do in my daily life. If I do everything in moderation, I know I’ll be fine.’

Bar-One Manhunt debuts on SABC1 on Tuesday at 9pm.

Quick picks

 Your hero?

I’m going to be predictable and say Nelson Mandela. He overcame obstacles and came out a victor.

The first CD you bought?

The Stevie Wonder single ‘Isn’t She Lovely?’. I was in Grade 10 and had just received my first payment from my job at the Sasko Sam factory. I watched the bread on the conveyer belt to make sure it didn’t fall off.

Signature style item?

I love my range of shoes, Howza Deluxe, available at Dodo stores.
