Tshwane ANCYL fed up with regional leadership

2011-02-25 14:48

The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in Pretoria has criticised the party’s regional leadership for the manner in which it runs the region.

“We refuse to keep quiet when the ANC is in shambles,” the league’s regional chairperson Masket Mtshweni said in statement today.

“We would like to express our dissatisfaction in the manner the ANC is being run in Tshwane by the regional chairperson [Tshwane mayor Sputla Ramokgopa] and his cabal.

“The factional group of the chairperson of the ANC has spent money in [the] Velmore Hotel buying delegates towards [the nomination] list conference [for the upcoming municipal elections] and we demand that money to be spent on [the] elections,” he said.

This follows ongoing protests outside the ANC offices in Pretoria’s Church Square, most recently a day ago.

In the past week, members protested against the leadership’s alleged manipulation of the nomination list.

A day later, another protest by a different group took place in support of the regional leadership. Mtshweni said they wanted the ANC’s provincial executive committee to investigate the manner in which the list process was handled.

“The PEC of the ANC must investigate the buying of votes by the regional chairperson and his cabal,” he said.

Mtshweni demanded that those members of the ANC regional executive committee who participated in the pro-leadership protest face disciplinary action.

The ANC has denied the existence of factions within the region, saying people always differed of opinion during elections.
