Tshwane Metro to ‘rent controversial SAPS building’

2010-09-29 13:51

The Tshwane community and safety department was planning to lease space in the same building as the one which embroiled police chief Bheki Cele in a media storm.

According to Pretoria News, the Tshwane Metro’s community and safety department had drawn up a draft lease contract with Roux Property Fund (RPF) to rent space for R5.1 million in the Sanlam Centre (Middestad) building.

RPF is owned by Roux Shabangu, who made headlines earlier this year when Cele announced that the SA Police Service headquarters would move to the same building.

The Pretoria News reported that it was not known how the draft lease was drawn up when the building was not owned by RPF, but by C-Max Investments 285 (Pty) Ltd.

The report cites a letter written on September 17 by the city’s community and safety director Chris Lekgetho to Tshwane Metro Police Department’s acting chief Pinkie Mathabathe. It said both refused to comment on the letter.
