Two bosses at Radio 2000

2011-03-17 14:30

Axed Radio 2000 station manager Carlito Sheikh will report for duty tomorrow after winning his lengthy legal battle to be reinstated.

The Broadcast, Electronic, Media and Allied Workers Union (Bemawu), of which Sheikh is a member, said the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) award was served yesterday.

Bemawu said that Sheikh intended to report for work tomorrow.

If Sheikh reports for duty then the station will have two managers.

After his dismissal, Sheikh was replaced by James Shikwambana.

The CCMA found that the dismissal was unfair and ordered that Sheikh be reinstated from his date of dismissal, November 18 2009.

Sheikh, through Bemawu, took his dismissal to the CCMA in May last year and the hearing was finalised last month.

“We believe justice has been done,” Bemawu president Hannes du Buisson said.

Du Buisson previously said Sheikh was fired for approving his own trip to Durban and that there was no rule which made this illegal.

SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said the public broadcaster was aware of the ruling and would study the judgment.
