Two held for cop killing

2013-07-02 10:23

Two people have been arrested for killing an off-duty policeman in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town, police have said.

Lt-Col Andre Traut said a 21-year-old man was arrested in Delft yesterday.

A 23-year-old woman was arrested shortly afterwards.

He said they would be charged in connection with the death of 29-year-old Constable Brandon Mapoe.

Mapoe was shot dead at a home in Dassenberg Street, Tafelsig, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

“We have reason to believe that the incident was preceded by an argument between the victim and the suspect, who fled the scene, and who is yet to be arrested,” Traut said at the time.

“It is also suspected that the victim and the suspect were acquainted with each other.”

Mapoe had been stationed at the Cape Town central police station.
