Two students in court for dragging pupil

2010-05-22 13:46

Two Free State students are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein

Magistrate’s Court on Monday for dragging a black pupil beside their vehicle in

an alleged racist incident.

Gordon Idris (20) and Werner Scholtz (20), students of the

University of the Free State, will appear on charges of attempted murder, crimen

injuria and malicious damage to property after they were arrested in a

Bloemfontein suburb on Sunday last week.

Die Volksblad reported that the pair allegedy dragged Pinky

Mokemane (17) a school pupil from Brebner High School, beside their moving

car.

Mokemane was waiting outside the Langenhoven Park townhouse complex

for her sister to open the gate when two men arrived in a car at the same gate,

also without a remote to open it.

When the gate opened one of the men on the passenger side

apparently grabbed Mokemane by the arm, before the vehicle pulled away.

The car moved a distance before she was let go and was snarled at

with the “k” word.

She sustained bruises to her arm and legs during the

incident.

The husband of Mokemane’s sister took her to a police station to

report the incident and provided the police with the registration number of the

vehicle.

The students were arrested the next day and appeared in court on

Monday, this week.

They were released on bail of R1 000 each.
