Two teenagers raped in one neighbourhood over weekend

2010-07-26 09:11

Two 14-year-old girls have allegedly been raped in separate incidents in Zola, Soweto, said Gauteng police today.

Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele said: “A girl has allegedly been kept in a house in Zola by a 24-year old man since April 17 and raped repeatedly. Another girl of the same age was allegedly raped yesterday by a 39-year old man.”

He said the girl was allegedly abducted three months ago and kept in a house where she was fed drugs and was raped. When her abductor went to KwaZulu-Natal for the weekend, the girl escaped from the house and contacted her parents.

Makhubele said: “It is not sure why she did not escape before this or if the man was known to the girl but all of that will be investigated.”

The man had not been arrested but would face charges of rape.

Makhubele said: “In a separate incident another girl was walking down the road [yesterday] when a man pulled her into his house and raped her.”

The man was arrested and would appear in the Protea Magistrates Court soon facing a charge of rape.

Both girls were receiving counselling and had been examined by the district surgeon.
