Two-year-old’s kidnapper on the run

2012-07-09 11:14

A woman was still on the run with a two-year-old girl after text messages demanding cash were sent to the toddler’s family.

Asanda Twala had been missing for the past two weeks since a family friend took the child to shops near the family home in Jeppestown, Johannesburg.

“We are still on the hunt for the female suspect who was last seen with the child,” Warrant Officer Richard Munyai said today.

“Both their pictures are being circulated and information we have so far is that she might be hiding somewhere in the Vaal.”

The family received text messages a few days after Asanda disappeared, said Munyai.

“First the family received a call that the suspect was dead, then followed a text message that said the family was being watched and that they should not contact police, or else Asanda dies.”

A demand for R15 000 in cash was received a week later.

No further messages were received by today, said Munyai.

“We are entering a third week since her disappearance.”
