Underdogs Black Leopards are ‘feeling the vibe’

2015-03-20 16:53

Black Leopards coach Zeca Marques says his team has everything to gain in their Nedbank Cup last-16 confrontation with Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

“We go into the game as the underdogs but I feel the vibe,” said Marques, who won the 2009 Nedbank Cup edition with Moroka Swallows as assistant coach.

“We would like to go as far as we can. Winning a trophy is a special moment in any coach’s career. I know how they play.”

Leopards are yet to lose a game in the new year since Marques was appointed their coach and they are outsiders in the race for promotion in the National First Division.

He joined the Limpopo-based side two months after he parted ways from Swallows in October last year.

Things have been going so well for Leopards that their midfielder Siphelele Ntshangase has been called up by Shakes Mashaba to the Bafana Bafana team that will face Swaziland and Nigeria in international friendly matches next week.

Chiefs’ coach Stuart Baxter conceded that Leopards would be a tough team.

“I’m sure they will be fired up for it. It is a potential banana skin for us and it is their World Cup final. We played Leopards when they still had Kosta Papic [as their coach] and it was a very difficult game. We are expecting another difficult game,” said Baxter in reference to their previous meeting with Leopards in the last-32 stage last season.

Amakhosi won that game 1-0 in extra time.

Baxter also hinted that he will rotate the team, meaning he will field a changed side to one that beat Swallows 3-0 midweek.

Fullbacks Tsepo Masilela and Siboniso Gaxa are out with suspensions.

Meanwhile, the Premier Soccer League said a moment of silence would be observed at this weekend’s Nedbank Cup matches in honour of the late Minister of Public Service and Administration Collins Chabane who tragically died in a car accident on Sunday.

The Chiefs-Leopards game will kick off at 5.30pm.
