2012-09-20 06:38

The first South African Dance Music Awards are just 10 days away.

The awards, held in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Sports Arts Culture and Recreation, is the brainchild of Oskido, Greg Maloka, Christos, DJ Fresh and Vini.

Gauteng Department of Sports Arts Culture and Recreation MEC Lebogang Maile said: “We are excited to be part of this great project that will celebrate and honour our dance music greats, it is innovative concepts like these that will help us realise our vision of promoting artistic excellence in Gauteng and contribute to the growth of our creative economy.”

Hosted by singers Thembi Seete and Ishmael Morabe, the event will also see locals’ favourite celebrities presenting awards.

These include Durban’s DJ Tira, kwaito singer Mandoza and rapper Amu, who will talk about how the award winners personally inspired them.

And to entertain on the night there will be the likes of Mzekezeke, Trompies, Mdu and Skeem.

Tickets are on sale at Computicket, ranging from R250 to R500.

The event takes place on September 30 at Gold Reef’s Lyric Theatre.
