Viewers to get a dose of reality

2012-01-14 19:57

Reality shows will be back in full swing this year, thanks to M-Net’s syndicated shows.

Already Masterchef South Africa is being shot, and this week the channel announced the return of two other favourites, Idols and Big Brother Africa.

On March 20, amateur cooks will be unveiled on the small screen as they battle their way in the kitchen.

In May, the seventh season of the continent’s attention-grabbing BBA series will be hitting our screens. The channel announced the new season very early “so that people who are interested in participating can start thinking about whether they want to take this incredible journey”.

And for those who are not too keen to be seen showering by millions of people around the continent, there is the chance to show off their voices by trying their luck in the Idols competition.

Auditions will take place at Johannesburg’s Sandton Convention Centre on February 4, then head to Durban’s Ushaka Marine World on February 11 and go to Cape Town’s Grandwest Entertainment World on February 18.

The search ends at Soweto’s Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown on February 25.

Pierre Cloete, M-Net’s Channel head, said: “ Idols offers contestants an astronomic amount of airtime and publicity and, with the support of the public, they can have a bright future in the world of showbiz.”
