Vroom: Wheels on screen that left their tracks on our hearts

2010-04-30 13:56

The

love of racing fast cars might possibly have originated from the epic film

Ben-Hur in 1959 – the original race movie – when Hugh Griffith declared:

“You’ve seen my horses. They need only a driver who is worthy of them!”

Here

are my top five movie cars of all time:

The

Pussy Wagon

Pop

icon Lady Gaga has been in the news lately for her 10-minute video of

Telephone, featuring Beyoncé.

The

controversial video features lots of nudity, lesbian tongue action and the

legendary Pussy Wagon from Quentin
Tarantino’s Kill Bill.

Apparently,

Tarantino loved the concept of the video – where Gaga and Bouncy are killer

lovers – so much he let Gaga use the yellow and pink pick-up truck.

The

DeLorean time machine

Christopher

Lloyd played the role of Doctor Emmet Brown alongside Michael J Fox in the Back

To The Future movies.

The crazy doctor built a time-travelling machine

using a DeLorean in the 1980s – and it actually worked.

The Shaguar

Austin

Powers had a car as eccentric as himself. Under the impressive, if not garish,

paint job of the colours of the British flag was a stunning 1967 Jaguar XK-E

convertible. Shagadelic baby!

The

Dodge Charger SS
Hunky

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker were not the only eye candy in the Fast & Furious

movies. The cars in the movie encouraged thousands of young boy and girl racers

across the world to pimp their rides with brightly coloured paint and

turbocharged engines. Diesel’s matt-black Dodge Charger SS was pure American

muscle and the real star of the movie.

Chevrolet Corvette

C1

The

Chevrolet Corvette C1 called Lightning McQueen from Disney’s Cars, and voiced

by Owen Wilson, was a charmer of note. Cars was aimed at a younger audience,

but there isn’t a grown petrolhead who hasn’t watched the talking

cars.
