Watch – Russell Peters 'pranks' Trevor Noah with theft claim

2015-04-08 17:27

First his jokes were too offensive and now his jokes are apparently stolen property. The Daily Show’s new host Trevor Noah continues to be surrounded by controversy after Canadian comedian Russell Peters accused him of being a thief.

In an interview with Lin Xueling, Peters said he did not want the “gig” because of the workload it carries. Peters also dismissed the claim of borrowing material saying it’s “like stealing somebody’s underwear and putting them on”. This is not the first time Noah has been accused of stealing material. In 2012 David Kau accused Noah of the same. The comedian responded to the claims by stating: “Nobody owns comedy; nobody owns a premise; nobody owns an idea... Comedy is your personal take on a thing... Like, half the jokes young black comedians are doing in America right now, Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy were doing 20 years ago.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHxbkLpbtNk UPDATE: On Thursday evening, after news of his interview had made headlines, Peters claimed in a tweet to Noah that his statements were a “prank”

Noah responded in kind, but opinion was divided from those following the interaction on Twitter about whether it was a genuine prank or an attempt by Peters to backtrack on his statements.
