‘We do not deal with sangomas’

2011-10-12 09:31

The SA Football Association (Safa) has never used the services of a sangoma and does not owe one R90 000, a senior official said today.

“We do not deal with sangomas and we do not have a contract with this man who claims we owe him money,” said Safa vice president Mwelo Nonkonyane.

“This man is a criminal and is trying to get money from us by going to the newspapers. This is extortion,” he said.

The Daily Sun reported yesterday that Nonkonyane had confirmed that Safa used the services of sangoma S’bonelo Madela, but that he “had been paid and both parties were happy with the settlement”.

However, Nonkonyane told Sapa that he had never confirmed having dealt with a sangoma to the newspaper.

The Daily Sun reported that Madela claimed Safa owed him R90 000 for providing the “magic” to win against France in the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

He said Bafana Bafana would not win any matches until he got his money, and hinted he was responsible for the team’s failure to go through to the Africa Cup of Nations finals on Saturday.

“If the national soccer team want to start winning, the SA Football Association bosses must settle their debt with me first,” Madela was quoted as saying.
