We want our Generations

2014-08-24 15:00

The actors and actresses of Generations, who are currently on strike, had their contracts terminated by the SABC. The big question is: how much does the show make?

It is reported that the Generations cast earned about R16?000 each a week and were demanding R30?000 a week. Yes, one will say they deserve it because most actors go to varsity for three years to study acting.

If some of us are happy to be slaves, others are not – regardless of consequences.

People died fighting the unjust system of apartheid. There were people – including black people – who felt all was fine with the system.

I think one’s state of mind and material assessment of any situation guides their response to such a situation. It’s perhaps the same with these actors. Joseph Mathunjwa and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union taught us to fight for our rights until the end.

It is convenient for the SABC to fire workers and cut its costs with an inexperienced cast.

Generations is making millions daily and I believe its producer, Mfundi Vundla, is now getting greedy. We want the old cast back, please.

We will watch the fired actors until the end of November – the show shoots three months in advance. I hope they won’t exit the soapie story line because of Ebola.
