WesBank settles with client

2011-02-26 09:05

WesBank has finally released the original registration certificate to a client who settled her account through the financier’s bad debt division.

An ecstatic Jabulile Sangweni of Tshwane acknowledged receipt of the ownership document and a letter of settlement after Hotline fought the battle on her behalf.

“There is no doubt about it. This victory would not have been possible without Hotline’s help,” said Sangweni when Hotline shared the good news.

In December last year she wrote to Hotline and complained about an unfair business practice she experienced from WesBank.

Sangweni admits that she experienced on the monthly repayments of her vehicle finance account on various occasions.

However, she informed WesBank about her financial difficulties and the car financiers agreed to her suggested terms.

In July last year, she finally settled her account, but WesBank made empty promises to release the ownership and settlement documents.

“My telephone bill ballooned as a result of constant calls I made to WesBank.

“They kept on sending me from one office to the another.

“Hotline came to my rescue and I will finally be driving my Toyota Rav4 with pride.

“I am the official owner and it is all in black and white,” said Sangweni.

Hotline referred the complaint to WesBank spokesperson Loura Brown, who promised to investigate.

Three weeks later, Brown responded and acknowledged receipt of all required payments from the customer.

She said WesBank had released the documents to the attorneys, who in turn released them to Sangweni.

A brief guide to car finance and ownership

  • A customer signs an offer to purchase a car with the dealership.
  • The dealership finalises the sale and submits documents to the car financier.
  • After signing the credit contract the financier issues the buyer with an Authority to Release form and the car is released.
  • On settlement of the debt, a paid up letter and the vehicle registration documents reflecting the client as the registered owner will be released.
