Metro FM sports anchor and SuperSport presenter Robert Marawa gets behind the wheel of a BMW M6 Coupé … and falls in love.

Robert Marawa says: ‘I’ve always been an admirer of sport coupés, but the BMW M6 is on a different level. It looks like an animal, and performs like one too. It says “Drive me, and be generous with the accelerator.” It really draws you in that way. Looking at it from behind, the four exhaust pipes already tell you the story. It’s also shaped like a bullet, which immediately shows you intention.

I love speed, so when I saw the 120km/h mark at a 10 o’clock angle on the speedometer, I got tempted to ask myself how far I could push it. It’s amazing how quickly you hit 120. But then you realise that you can’t go any faster on freeways. You’d have to go to Kyalami.

I really value sound systems in a car. The B&O in the M6 didn’t disappoint. One of the amazing sights is the centre speaker that automatically pops up from the dashboard. Stunning.

The car got a reaction from pretty much everyone. I’d park it in a public space and return to an admiring audience. Some pedestrians even twisted their necks to get a glimpse as it approached from behind them, right until it disappeared in front of their eyes. In short, the BMW M6 Coupé is a top-class showstopper.’

Macho man

Being a dad doesn’t mean you have to drive in the left lane all the time. When machismo is called for, dads can also respond with gusto and a happy right foot. Any of these machines will do the trick for fathers on different floors of the corporate building.

Lexus LS 460

Big daddy. He has the corner office with a weekly day off for mandatory golf with other big daddiesin similarly big cars. HisR1.2 million LS 460 assures you he’s the boss, but is not the clichéd arrogant prude like some of his counterparts who prefer German equivalents.

Opel Astra OPC

Mid-sized daddy still has his boy-racer suit on, but is now responsible for people other than just number one. The interior space is welcome, the 206kW of turbo surge satisfying, and the rarity of the Astra OPC highly appreciated.

Fiesta ST

Starter dad is probably on his maiden reproductive cycle, and still keeps his daring machismo. Pushing out 134kW, Fiesta ST is punchy, quick, but still takes four people with luggage. He can drive it every day without feeling exhausted, as he would in a two-door sports car.
