What’s in ... Amor Vittone’s handbag?

2011-04-08 11:35

Local singer and gossip page stalwart Amor Vittone spent most of last year in the tabloids as the salacious details of the very public breakup of her marriage to the former Springbok, Joost van der Westhuizen, were picked over.

But this year Vittone’s on the comeback trail and has already featured in two song- and-dance productions – Strictly Tap Dance Fever and Streets of Gold. Added to that there’s a new album on the way, which she says will have that “Kylie Minogue vibe”, and she’s also launching a perfume, aptly named New Beginnings.

To find out what she needs to get through an average day, 7 asked the woman described as the “Madonna of Afrikaans music” to tip out the contents of her tassled black, leather Woolworths bag.

Vittone says she always buys bags from the retailer because they are inexpensive and hardy. She admits to having two Louis Vuitton bags, but considers them too precious for daily wear and tear.

As she began to unpack, the patrons of Design Quarter eatery looked on in amazement as she revealed a cornucopia of girlish delights, the paraphernalia of a seasoned mother of two and the props of her performing trade.

1. There are two sponge bags full of make-up, which Vittone says includes stage make-up, as well as lashes in a bottle and extra lip gloss.

2. “I use the journal for women to write down ideas, or if I see something I like . . . because I forget.” She also has a diary and two Blackberry cellphones, one of which is sponsored.

“A cellphone is the most addictive thing and so distracting,” she says.

3. She unpacks anti-inflammatory tissue salts for her voice and something she terms an “entertainment industry secret”, spray for a dry voice or hoarse throat.

“It’s my best,” she says, a phrase she uses as a prefix for just about everything that emerges from her bottomless bag.

4. She pulls out a box of jewellery. “I am always taking off and putting on,” she says.

5. As she pulls out a bottle of Rice Dry Oil Spray – “I bought it in Canada, I bought 10 bottles.

It’s nice if you need a shine-up” – and a surprisingly large bottle of a hair product, she explains: “I have a pharmacy in my bag – I am not a simple girl. I like to have extras.”
