Enric Pladevall is a Spanish sculptor who creates mystical forms that combine the natural and the man-made. Working with steel and wood, he creates a duality of kinetic energy and calm.

Diaries of a Down-and-Out Diva features Tonya Koenderman, who reveals a downtrodden showgirl’s life with funny anecdotes.

Starting on Wednesday at The Studio at Montecasino, this show is directed by Durban’s Lisa Bobbert and is a blow-by-blow account of how lacking in glamour and romance showbusiness can be. The show runs until October 17. Call 011 511 1988.

Edward II by Christopher Marlowe, adapted by Tracey Human, is on at the Wits Downstairs theatre from Saturday to October 16.

Deemed by many to be Marlowe’s crowning achievement, Edward II is the story of a flawed monarch. Call 011717 1376 or 073 725 7381.

Is It Because I’m Jack? is the latest play from the pen of award-winning South African playwright Mike van Graan, author of Green Man Flashing, Two to Tango and the hit satirical franchise Bafana Republic.

A dark comedy about life, friendship and survival, Is It Because I’m Jack? explores what happens when four young friends in the prime of their lives are forced to confront their mortality after one of them – a stand-up comic – is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.

The play runs at On Broadway in Long Street from Tuesday to October 16. It then moves to the State Theatre in Pretoria from October 18 to 30. Book at Computicket.

Starring Fleur Du Cap winner Charlie Keegan and Standard Bank Ovation Award winner Taryn Nightingale, Pornography is a crime caper about a man on a road to nowhere, his tag-along girlfriend and the plan that’ll make them rich or leave them dead.

It is written and directed by Amy Jephta, winner of the Baxter Theatre’s first Emerging Theatre Director’s Bursary.

Pornography is at the Intimate Theatre on Orange Street in Gardens from Saturday to October 16.

Dance

Dada Masilo’s Carmen comes to the Baxter Theatre on Tuesday until Sunday.

The Cape Town premiere of this highly acclaimed production comes nearly a year after she wowed local audiences with her version of Romeo and Juliet.

The award-winning ­25-year-old dancer and choreographer is a trailblazer who creates and explores fresh vocabulary in the genre.

Music

From tomorrow until Saturday, the contestants in the National Youth Music Competition will be strutting their stuff at Artscape in Cape Town.

Entrance to the event during rounds 1, 2 and 3 is free.

The final six will perform with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Victor Yampolsky on Saturday night.
