Who to watch at #ANCpolicy – Fikile Mbalula

2012-06-25 14:15

ANC NEC member and Sport Minister Fikile Mbalula is the face of the ANC Youth League’s call for younger leaders to be elected to the ANC’s top structures.

Already tipped to replace Gwede Mantashe as secretary-general, Mbalula has been vocal in his support for the nationalisation of mines and the generational mix, the youth league’s key demands.

With former ANC Youth League president Julius Malema expelled from the ANC, Mbalula is one of the party’s leaders to whom supporters of the proposed policies will look to lead the charge at this week’s conference.

He is a former youth league president and is known for his mobilising skills, which saw him appointed as the ANC’s national campaigns manager who led the ANC to its 2009 election victory.

He also played a significant role in securing victory for ANC president Jacob Zuma in Polokwane and is expected to use the same skills to try and topple him in Mangaung.

Mbalula is one of the first ANC national executive committee members to be vocal against the disciplinary measures imposed on Malema.
