Why did you get married?

2013-02-17 10:00

This is a question my peers always ask me since I said “I do” four years ago.

My answer has always been: I wanted to settle down in life and do so with someone who shares the same life objectives and goals as I do.

My wife and I are more like friends than husband and wife.

Over and above those objectives and goals, our relationship is built on the pillars of trust, honesty, friendship and a lot of sacrifice.

I went this route because the idea was also to create an ideal environment for our kids, to pamper them with love and care from close range and, in the process, complement the happy family set-up.

We do things together whenever we can, as opposed to sharing responsibilities.

My reasons for marriage would definitely vary from the versions of other couples.

But the common question remains as to whether we marry for the right reasons.

My experience so far has taught me that marriage is not only about the love.

Interestingly, even the deacons at our church echoed the same thoughts during a session this week.

I entered into marriage knowing fully that it is a lifetime commitment and that it takes a sober-minded and focused individual to sign this life contract.
