Woman arrested for leaving children to visit boyfriend

2011-08-22 07:24

A Pretoria woman has been arrested for leaving her four children, including a one-month-old baby, locked up in a house for two days without food.

Her neighbours in Nellmapius called the police after hearing the children shouting and crying at the weekend.

“When the police got there, the children were shivering and very hungry because there was nothing in the house to eat,” Captain Jan Sepato told Afrikaans daily Beeld.

The children – aged 2, 5 and 10 – were taken to a place of safety and the one-month-old baby was admitted to hospital.

The 29-year-old woman apparently locked the children in the house and went to visit her boyfriend for two days.

She faces charges of child neglect.
